Luis Sinisterra ruled out for extended period as Jesse Marsch provides Leeds United injury update

Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch expects to be without Luis Sinisterra until after the World Cup break. The winger was due to restart training this week after missing the win over Liverpool on Saturday night with a foot complaint.

However, further scans have revealed that Sinisterra is struggling with a Lisfranc issue, which is expected to rule him out of Leeds’ last two games before the World Cup break. Marsch was quick to stress the club’s believe that Siniterra’s injury is only a partial tear and not a rupture, but the club will continue to monitor it and treat the injury with caution.

Sinisterra has been one of Leeds’ most dangerous players this season and his absence will be a big loss leading into Saturday’s clash with Bournemouth.

“Stuart (Dallas) and Adam (Forshaw), again are injured but making progress,” Marsch revealed at his pre-match press conference. “Archie Gray will be, we think, on the pitch tomorrow, so starting getting closer to training with the full team. And then the only other update is Luis Sinisterra.

“Luis has a foot injury that it turns out to be more than what we initially originally thought it was. He wasn't making the progress that we were hoping for him to make over the last 10 days. So they did another scan and then they had a specialist looked at it, and they start to worry about it being a Lisfranc injury.

“It’s a rare injury that controls the movement of the metatarsals and when that is ruptured, it can be a long recovery. We don't believe it's ruptured. We believe it's partially torn, which puts him in a little bit of a grey area, but probably out until after the World Cup break.

“So we'll know more about that today. And again, we're hopeful that it's a version that doesn't take off for long.”
