Luis Enrique is in London for talks with Chelsea over the vacant manager role after Graham Potter was sacked on Sunday. The Blues appointed Potter's assistant Bruno Saltor in caretaker charge whilst conducting a thorough search for the third manager in 10 months under Todd Boehly-Clearlake.
With a handful of candidates already being considered to be the latest head coach at Stamford Bridge, Enrique has taken steps towards becoming that man. football.london understands that the former Spain and Barcelona coach is now in London for talks.
The Blues aren't yet close to making an appointment but are ramping up their actions with a Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid on the horizon. Other names in the hat for the job at this moment are Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino and outsiders Ruben Amorim and Oliver Glasner.
Enrique, who hasn't managed since leaving Spain following their World Cup disappointment, has been open about his desire to move to a new league, stating: "I follow above all the Premier [League] because I would like to go to England to work.
He added: "I wouldn't go to any team but to one that could do important things, which greatly reduces the number. I don't put my hopes up, really, because there are many candidates.
"I am lucky because my personal life fills me up. That it takes longer, that no offers arrive, well, it is what it is. I would go to a team with possibilities. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't work in Spain."
Enrique had great success with Barcelona, managing one of the greatest frontlines ever seen. His love of the Premier League stretches to before that though. In 2013 he admitted: "I’d like to manage in England at some point. My wife wouldn’t like the weather, she’s from Barcelona and likes the sun. It would depend on the team and the football they played."
