Luis Diaz has urged Mohamed Salah to extend his time at Liverpool beyond next summer.
The Egyptian is out of contract at the end of the season and revealed after Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Manchester United that there had been no contact from the club to discuss a new deal.
Salah said he is therefore planning on this being his “last year” at Liverpool, who will also have Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk out of contract next summer as it stands.
Speaking to Telemundo while on international duty with Colombia, Diaz admitted it would be a huge blow to the club if Salah’s eighth season at Anfield proved to be his last.
“It would be hard for us, the players, as well as for Liverpool,” the winger said.
“It will hurt a lot, he has a year to think about it. It is not easy at all. He always talks to us, it would be very hard to lose a player as key as he is.
“It is my team-mate’s decision and it is respected, hopefully he doesn’t leave.”
Liverpool have made a strong start to life under Arne Slot, with the dominant win over United on Sunday leaving them on nine points from their first three Premier League matches.
Salah has scored three and provided as many as assists in those victories, but his comments after the match threatened to overshadow an otherwise perfect afternoon at Old Trafford.
"I had a good summer, a long time to stay with myself and try to think positive, because as you know this is my last year in the club,” Salah told Sky Sports.
“I just want to enjoy it. I don’t want to think about it, but I feel I’m free to play football and we’ll see what can happen next year.”
“To be fair I was coming to the game and said it could be the last time [at Old Trafford]. Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contract, so I just [think] ‘OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season’.”
