Luis Diaz transfer update as Tottenham look at bringing Porto star to London as winger exits

Tottenham Hotspur have enquired about the availability of Porto's star winger Luis Diaz for a transfer this month, football.london understands.

The 25-year-old Colombia international is one of Europe's hottest properties at the moment, with 16 goals and six assists from the left wing for the Portuguese side.

Diaz has plenty of admirers at Tottenham, including the club's managing director of football Fabio Paratici.

football.london understands that Paratici has made enquiries with Porto and the player's representatives about the possibility of bringing him to north London this month.

Reports in Italy have suggested that Spurs have gone as far as lodging a 45m euros (£37.6m) offer for the exciting winger plus add-ons, who has a release clause of almost double that amount.

The north London club are remaining quiet over the claims of a bid for Diaz but he is certainly a player who would improve Antonio Conte's squad.

Spurs were not originally targeted another winger but with attempts being made to move Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele and Dele All out of the club, Conte's attacking midfield options would be lessened greatly.

Diaz can play on either wing but would also be able to play as one of the two number 10s Conte employs in the roles behind Harry Kane.

His goalscoring exploits would also relieve the burden on Kane and Son Heung-min and if they could snare the Colombian, it could see Paratici push off the club's hunt for another striker until the summer with Son and Steven Bergwijn playing back-up to Kane.

As with any January transfer, particularly for a player coveted by many of Europe's top clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester United, a deal will be difficult to do this month, but Spurs have certainly enquired as to the possibility of bringing the Colombian to north London before Monday's deadline.

Conte has previously told football.london that he has a lack of creative players at Tottenham and, with the potential exit of three attacking midfielders, it's understandable why the club would look at the highly-rated Diaz.

One young winger heading out of Spurs is Jack Clarke, who is in the final stages of completing a loan move to Sunderland until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old has struggled for game time at the club since arriving from Leeds in 2019.

Now he is set to get a chance with the League One high-flyers and football.london understands that Clarke will have his medical tomorrow with his new club.
