Luis Diaz to Tottenham transfer: Liverpool lead race, £66m release clause, Spurs bid rejected

Tottenham are trying to sign Luis Diaz from Porto before Monday's transfer deadline.

Spurs have held talks with the Porto forward over the last few days as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his front line before the end of the month.

Conte has not held back in his comments about his desire to improve the Tottenham squad over the January transfer window and with Adama Traore now looking set to join Barcelona, Diaz was Spurs' biggest hope this month - however that may now have hit a problem.

So, with all of this being said, football.london rounds up everything that has been reported on Diaz and his future.

Liverpool race

According to Goal reporter, Neil Jones, Liverpool are attempting to beat Tottenham to the signing of Diaz before Monday's deadline.

Jones claims that 'nothing is agreed yet' but the Reds are firmly in the race to land the Colombia international, with their interest being accelerated because of Spurs' recent talks.

Liverpool are said to be long-term admirers of the Porto winger and it seems as if Tottenham have now pushed them to make a move for his services, with numerous other outlets claiming it is the Reds who now lead the race.

Release clause

According to Portuguese news outlet Record, via Sport Witness, Diaz has a release clause of €80million (£66.8m) in his contract at the Estadio do Dragao, which runs until the summer of 2024.

If the north London club were to trigger this reported clause, then Diaz would become Tottenham's record signing - with Tanguy Ndombele the current holder of that title, following his £53.8m move from Lyon in the summer of 2019.

Spurs bid rejected

According to a report from The Guardian earlier this week, Tottenham have seen a £37.6m offer turned down from Porto for Diaz.

The Colombia international is currently on duty with the South American country ahead of their matches with Peru and Argentina.

The stance of Diaz is still unknown at the moment, but Tottenham are trying their best to convince Porto in the meantime as Conte looks for another attacker to add to his options.

Diaz stance revealed

With Liverpool coming in for his signature, Diaz is believed to favour a move to Anfield, according to The Athletic.

The report also claims that the Reds are expected to agree a £50m deal, including add-ons, with Porto for the 25-year-old winger.
