Luis Diaz's mother reveals what Liverpool forward has said about manager and dressing room

Luis Diaz's mother has revealed the forward is "maturing" at Liverpool and his team-mates have welcomed him into the dressing room with open arms.

The Colombian, 25, has made an instant impact at Anfield since leaving Porto in January. He's scored six goals and provided four assists for Liverpool this season, creating an understanding with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.

Diaz was part of Jurgen Klopp's side that lifted the EFL Cup in February, as the Reds aim to become the first English team in history to win the quadruple. They're in the finals of the FA Cup and Champions League - to be played against Chelsea and Real Madrid respectively - and are second in the Premier League as the run-in reaches its finale.

"He is maturing; I see him more serene in everything he does, very disciplined in everything," said Diaz's mother, as quoted by Colombian magazine Semana. "He is very serious, and responsible in all his work, and that’s why he has done so well.

"God gives him blessings so that he can continue to excel. He is loving with his dad, with everyone, we talk every day. He tells me, 'Mummy, you’re the best mummy in the world; I love you very much'. He doesn’t hold grudges against anyone because he’s always been simple since he was a child, humble; I’ve seen him the same way since he was a child.

"He tells me, ‘The manager likes me; when I play my games, he hugs me' - and he has also been able to get along with his team-mates. They welcome him for being the way he is."

Diaz is having the season of his life. He scored 16 goals at Porto before moving to Liverpool in a deal worth up to £50million. Porto have gone on to win the Portuguese league title partly thanks to his efforts, earning him a second winners' medal in the competition.

Diaz helped Colombia reach the semi-finals of the Copa America last summer. The 35-cap international was named the tournament's "Revelation" (breakthrough star) and shared the Golden Boot with Argentina superstar Lionel Messi for his efforts in Brazil. It was a great way to lead into a new season.

"With Luis, where it has been really special is that when we saw him we knew that he would fit in immediately," Klopp told Sky Sports in March. "That is really difficult usually but because he did not have to change, that is why we have a really confident boy here.

"He was in a really good moment with Porto, playing good for Colombia, and so he came here full of confidence. But what we tried to make sure is that he does not lose that because of the playbook as we tell him that he has to do this and he has to do that. We want him to be natural."

Klopp added: "It was clear from the first moment that we saw him that he would be a player who could play immediately... whatever happens between now and May, his message is that the Luis Diaz story is only just beginning.

"Nothing has happened yet. Yes, the start has been really good. But he is a long-term project for us and we are a long-term project for him. There is loads more to come."
