Luis Diaz completes £49m transfer to Liverpool from Porto

Liverpool have completed the signing of Luis Diaz from Porto.

The Reds have made their move in the closing stages of the January transfer window to bring the high-rated Colombia international to Anfield.

Diaz has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Anfield, after Liverpool agreed a deal that could rise to £49m with Porto. He'll wear number 23.

The 25-year-old was believed to have had a £67m release clause in his contract, but Porto have been forced to take a financial hit after finishing third in their Champions League group behind Liverpool and Atletico Madrid.

As a result, the Reds' bid of £37m with a further £12m has been a successful one.

Anfield sources believe an early move for Diaz presents better value for the club with Porto initially eyeing a fee in excess of £49m in the summer months, which was the winger's original asking price.

Tottenham Hotspur were also heavily linked with signing Diaz, but Liverpool have stolen a march on their Premier League rivals to bring the forward to Merseyside.

Liverpool sent a delegation out to meet Diaz in Argentina over the weekend, with a medical being completed.

Diaz will be able to travel to Liverpool towards the end of next week once his international commitments are fulfilled.
