Luigi Mangione To Face Charges In Federal And State Courts

The Manhattan District Attorney's office announced on Thursday that the case against Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, will proceed simultaneously in both New York state and federal courts.

The statement released by the Manhattan D.A.'s office emphasized the seriousness of the charges, stating that Mangione allegedly shot Mr. Thompson at point-blank range on a Manhattan sidewalk. The office, in collaboration with the NYPD, is committed to seeking justice for this brutal murder, with charges including Murder in the first degree.

An 11-count indictment was unsealed on Tuesday in New York state, charging Mangione, 26, with one count of murder in the first degree, two counts of murder in the second degree, as well as additional weapon and forgery charges. In addition to the state charges, Mangione also faces four federal counts related to the shooting, as outlined in a criminal complaint unsealed on Thursday.

Mangione is scheduled to appear in federal court on Thursday, while the timing of his appearance in state court has not yet been determined.
