A judge on Wednesday granted Luigi Mangione only a brief delay for his federal trial in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, moving it from September to October rather than next year as his lawyers had requested.
U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett based her decision on the schedule of Mangione’s state murder trial, set to begin June 8 and last four to six weeks. She denied the defense’s request to postpone the federal trial until January or February 2027, which they argued would allow them to later delay the state case until September.
