Ludhiana weather: Mercury touches new high this season

LUDHIANA: Ludhiana witnessed the hottest day of the ongoing summer season as the maximum temperature almost touched 40-degree mark on Thursday.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 39.7°C, which was 7 degrees above normal. On Wednesday, the day temperature was recorded at 38.5°C, which was around 6 degrees above normal. At 18.6°C, the minimum temperature in the city too recorded an increase by 2.3 degrees as compared to Wednesday’s temperature , which was two degrees more than normal and 2.3 degree more than a day before.

The meteorological department predicted little change in the weather in the next four days. A department official in Chandigarh said for next four days, the weather is expected to be mainly clear in Ludhiana and both day and night temperatures are expected to increase. The department’s website suggested that day temperature might touch 42°C by coming Tuesday, whereas night temperature might rise to 22°C by coming Monday.

Residents, who had to venture out especially in the afternoon, had tough time. “I had to go to the market to buy some groceries during the day. As it was too hot, I quickly bought the stuff, returned home and switched on the air conditioner. I drank a glass of orange juice to beat the heat,” said Jasvir Singh, a trader from Pakhowal road.
