Ludhiana: Salaries delayed, roadways staff protest

LUDHIANA: Employees and staff of Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC staged a massive protest against the state government on Tuesday. The protesters alleged that their salaries were not being paid on time and that their demands were unfulfilled. They sat outside the office of the general manager, Punjab Roadways and raised slogans against the government.

Shamsher, state general secretary, Employee Union said, “Today, workers’ unions of Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC are protesting against the state government on the issue of non- payment of salaries. We have decided to remain off work because of the endless atrocities being committed by the government. Despite our repeated reminders to senior officials to talk to us and resolve our issues, nothing is being done. Employees, especially contractual ones are facing a very tough time as our salaries are being delayed and it is getting very difficult for us to mee our day to day expenses.”

Announcing chakka jam from June 23, depot president of workers’ union Satnam Singh said, “Multiple meetings have taken place between our seniors and the transport minister but the problems of payment of salaries and other issues remain unsolved. As a last resort, on Thursday, June 23, we have decided to observe a massive chakka jam. No buses will ply from 12pm onwards. We will also gherao homes of AAP MLAs and ministers as a mark of our protest against the ruling party.”
