Ludhiana: Girl with mental problem ‘raped’

LUDHIANA: Dakha police have booked a person for allegedly raping a girl who had allegedly run away from the children’s home. The girl might be suffering from some mental health issue.

Sarpanch of a village told police that at 7 am on April 18, he came to know that a homeless girl was walking on the road. He said the girl seemed to have some mental problem. When asked, the girl told her name. In the presence of prominent persons in the village, he took the girl to his house and came to know that she had run away from children’s home. It was apparent from her condition that she had been violated, following which he informed the police.

Police said the girl was handed over to SI Kirandeep Kaur, in-charge of Sudhar police station. Based on the complaint lodged by the sarpanch, police registered a case under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC. Identity of the accused is still not known.

Cops said medical examination of the girl is being carried out and further action will be taken after receiving the report.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
