Ludek Miklosko: West Ham hero dies as club pays tribute to ‘gentle giant’

Former West Ham United goalkeeper and coach Ludek Miklosko has died at the age of 64 following a battle with cancer, having announced in December 2024 that he was stepping back from further treatment.
The Czech shot-stopper made nearly 400 appearances for West Ham between 1990 and 1998, helping the club secure promotion to the top flight on two occasions before later returning as a goalkeeping coach.
Miklosko, who earned international honours representing Czechoslovakia at the 1990 World Cup finals in Italy, concluded his professional playing career at QPR.
West Ham United paid tribute to the “gentle giant of a man” and will honour the club legend with a period of appreciation during their Carabao Cup third-round tie against Fulham, as well as dedicated tributes at their upcoming home match against QPR.
In a moving statement, his son Martin expressed deep gratitude to West Ham supporters and former team-mates, stating that the immense love and messages of comfort gave his father strength throughout his illness.
