Lucy Staniforth on standby for England’s World Cup squad after Jess Park drops out with injury

England have placed Aston Villa midfielder Lucy Staniforth on standby for this summer’s Women’s World Cup.

The Lionesses have made the move after Manchester City midfielder Jess Park was forced to drop out due to a shoulder injury.

Park had been one of three standby players alongside Manchester United defender Maya Le Tissier and goalkeeper Emily Ramsey.

All three are training with the squad, who are currently based at St. George’s Park before flying to Australia next week for a pre-tournament training camp.

Ramsey will not fly with the squad Down Under, but Le Tissier and Staniforth will and shall remain with the Lionesses until their match against Haiti in Brisbane on July 22.

England face Portugal on Saturday in a send-off international at a sold-out Stadium MK and then fly to Australia on Wednesday.

They will play another game when there, taking on Canada in a behind-closed-doors friendly.
