LUCKNOW: About 20 more people have come up with the claim that they have given money to the irrigation department junior engineer (JE) who committed suicide after poisoning his wife and daughter.
The money was given to get government jobs. Now, all these people will be questioned and their claims verified against transactions in four banks, police said.
JE Shailendra Kumar (45), his wife Geeta (38) and daughter Prachi (17) had died after consuming food laced with insecticide on Wednesday. Prashant, the 15-year-old son of Kumar, was in Indore at the time of incident. He returned later.
These revelations are in stark contrast with the claims by his relatives and the suicide notes which said that the junior engineer was in a debt trap running in crores and took the extreme step because of mental harassment and humiliation.
DCP north zone Anil Kumar Yadav said, "As many as 20 persons have claimed that a total of Rs 1 crore was given to Kumar, who promised jobs in the irrigation department and later reneged from his promise."
They have paid amounts of Rs 15 lakh or Rs 20 lakh in cash and not through any banking process.
"All have been sent a notice and asked to appear before us," said Yadav.
Four of Kumar's bank accounts are being scrutinised by bank authorities. Papers of land purchased by him are also being scanned and assistance from revenue department officials will also be taken for the same.
Police also investigated credentials of those named by Kumar in his suicide note.
"All those named in the case have not been absolved of charges as yet and a probe is still going on," said Yadav.
