Lucien Laviscount was not holding back on expressing his feelings for the Conservative government as he walked the red carpet at The Oscars over the weekend.
The Emily in Paris star had some colourful language as he appeared among the stars for the Academy Awards ceremony amid its row with Gary Lineker, who has recently been re-appointed in his role at the BBC.
Good Morning Britain’s North American correspondent Noel Phillips was on the champagne-coloured carpet at the glamorous event early on Monday morning, giving ITV viewers a run-down of the night.
Noel told hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid in the studio: “The Oscars might have been a slightly quieter affair with no punches thrown, but it was still a historic night.”
He continued: “It’s worth saying this year’s ceremony wasn't the most memorable or eventful, which will be a huge relief to the Academy, especially after the last 12 months they have had.
“Nonetheless it was a historic night. We saw Everything Everywhere All At Once winning seven of its 11 nominations.
“Here on the red carpet, one storyline which got a lot of guests talking about as they walked down this champagne-coloured carpet was the row between the BBC and Gary Lineker.”
The BBC’s football coverage faced major disruption over the weekend due to the broadcaster’s decision to suspend Gary Lineker for his tweets about the UK asylum policy which caused outroar and debate across the industry on people having free speech.
Noel spoke with the former Waterloo Road actor about the impartiality row and he simply turned to the camera and said: “F*** the Tories,” which was bleeped out in the ITV clip and appeared to flip the camera the finger as his hand was blurred.
Lucien, 30, stars as sharp-suited Alfie in the hit Netflix romcom opposite Lily Collins.
The Burnley-born actor started out as a child model for M&S before landing the role of swimmer Ben Richardson in Coronation Street and sharing a kiss with Kym Marsh’s Michelle Connor in 2009.
He appeared in Celebrity Big Brother two years later, where he met and dated Kerry Katona, who is 12 years his senior.
After landing the major role in seasons two and three of Emily in Paris, movie offers are now rolling in with Lucien even tipped to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond.
Noel also spoke with musician Nile Rogers, who said of the row: “If somehow caring about people offends somebody, you know what I say to that? It's not good for television.”
Lucian and Nile’s comments on the Academy Awards red carpet come in the wake of another day of last-minute programming changes for sports coverage on the BBC as presenters refused to appear on BBC sports shows in solidarity with colleague Gary.
BBC director general Tim Davie admitted it had been a ‘difficult day’ on Sunday as he apologised for the disruption to BBC sports programming.
It has now been confirmed on Monday that Gary Lineker will continue as a BBC presenter after the corporation apologised for “potential confusion caused by the grey areas” of its social media guidelines.
A host of sports presenters and pundits pulled out of BBC shows at the weekend after the former England striker was told to step back from hosting the show in a row over impartiality.
BBC Director-General Tim Davie has apologised after Gary Lineker was told to step back from presenting Match Of The Day in a row over impartiality and said he will return to hosting coverage this weekend.
Gary Lineker has said he is “glad that we have found a way forward” over his return to presenting BBC football coverage, adding: “(I) look forward to getting back on air.”
Gary Lineker “will abide by the editorial guidelines” until a review of the BBC’s social media policy is complete, director-general Tim Davie said.
