However, the organization's executive director, Alejandra Gomez, now expresses enthusiasm following Vice President Kamala Harris' nomination as the Democratic presidential candidate and her selection of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.
Gomez views Harris' choice of Walz as a significant political move that signals a commitment to a progressive and decisive presidency. In Minnesota, initiatives such as offering free college tuition to certain undocumented students and expanding driver's license eligibility regardless of immigration status have garnered support.
Furthermore, the group welcomed Biden's executive action in June, which provided protection to undocumented spouses and children of citizens. LUCHA aims to engage with voters by knocking on 1 million doors before November, having already reached 100,000 households.
Gomez emphasizes the importance of Arizona's role in the upcoming election, noting a newfound energy within the Latino community following the transition and Harris' nomination. The organization is determined to ensure a significant impact in the state's electoral outcome.
