Aston Villa's Lucas Digne and Matty Cash were both struck with bottles after they went 1-0 up against Everton at Goodison Park.
The French international returns to face his former club for the first time since his departure earlier in the window, but there were unsavoury scenes in the aftermath of Villa's opener.
In added time of the first half, Digne stepped up to take a corner for his new club and was booed by Everton supporters as he whipped a dangerous ball into the box.

His cross was met at the near post by Emi Buendia, who headed it past Jordan Pickford to give Villa the lead at half-time.
Amid the celebrations of the goal, both Digne and Cash were struck with bottles thrown by Everton supporters.
Digne's exit from Goodison Park came after a falling out with manager Rafa Benitez, who was sacked by the club last Sunday.
The defender shared a heartfelt message on social media after his move to Villa Park was confirmed, where he described it as a love affair that had been 'destroyed'.
BT Sport announced on commentary that Everton and Merseyside Police were looking into the incident while, the PA system at Goodison Park announced after that anyone caught throwing bottles will be 'arrested and banned'.
