Luca Connell post-Celtic life lands huge praise as Barnsley star tipped to be a captain one day

Luca Connell has landed huge post Celtic praise as he continues to impress at Barnsley.

The youngster moved to the Hoops from Bolton but that never worked out for the midfielder who spent loan spells with now Scottish Championship leaders Queen's Park. He impressed for the Spiders during his time at the ambitious outfit and earned a crack at England's League One with the Oakwell outfit.

They are right in the mixer for promotion to the English Championship after a huge win over Sheffield Wednesday last time out. It leaves them just six points behind the Hillsborough side in second while they are fourth and in the play-off shake up with a 12-point cushion with a huge ten games to go.

Boss Michael Duff has hailed Connell as an 'unbelievable kid' and has no doubt that he will captain a football club at some point down the line in his career. He plays in a key position on the park and while he still have improvements to make at just the tender age of 21, his gaffer is in awe at the level of his performances for his side.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Duff said: "He's an unbelievable kid. You forget he's 21 years-old.

"I didn't know anything about him. I got introduced to him when we signed him a week in and you could see very quickly he could play. He'll definitely be a captain of a football club at some point in his career the way he drives it.

"His ability and his performances are there but the way he drives it and carries himself, the way he puts demands on other people, he'll be a captain somewhere along the line.

"I spoke to Callum Wright at Plymouth, who I had at Cheltenham. They're good mates and grew up together and he said similar things.

"There's things he can improve – he can open up better on one side and things like that – but his level of performance for such a young lad in a pivotal position on the pitch... it's generally experienced players there and that's one thing he isn't.

"It's almost been seamless and he's understood it. If there was a player of the year I'd imagine he'd be in the top three or four."
