'Lovely' father and football stalwart named as victim of A55 crash

Tributes have been paid to a "lovely" father and stalwart of a north Wales football club who died in a serious crash on the A55.

Sean Brett was one of two people who died in the crash on the dual carriageway in Dobshill in Flintshire on Saturday.

The 50-year-old was a former manager of Menai Bridge Tigers FC, and the club paid tribute to him following his death, reports North Wales Live.

In a statement, the club said: "Menai Bridge Tigers are devastated at the tragic passing of our former manager Sean Brett on Saturday.

"Sean's contribution to the club was immeasurable; he was with the club from the reformation of the senior side in 2009, spending a decade as manager. He also gave 12 years as manager of his son Noah's junior team, all the way from Under 7s to Under 16s.

"As manager, Sean was an integral part of the club's success in clinching the Anglesey and Gwynedd League titles, as well as several cup triumphs. He was more than just a manager, fulfilling numerous duties from treasurer to marking the pitch.

"Sean was Tigers through and through, while he stepped down in 2019 he continued to support Tigers at every opportunity.

"The loss will be felt by the club, the town of Menai Bridge, and the wider local football community.

"All at the club would like to express heartfelt condolences to Nicola, Noah, Hope, and all Sean's family and friends."

A minute's applause in his memory was held before the team's Under 10s match on Sunday morning, as a mark of respect.

Dozens of people shared their sympathies on social media, calling Mr Brett a "lovely man" and saying his death would be a "huge loss to our community".

Emergency services were called shortly before 12.30pm on Saturday, February 26, to the multi-vehicle crash.

Police later confirmed that two people had died and launched an investigation.

The road was closed until around 10pm on Saturday as officers conducted accident investigation work.

Sergeant Liam Morris, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: "I extend my heartfelt sympathy for the families involved.

“I urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact us immediately to assist us with our investigation. I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage of a red Audi TT driving erratically at around this time."

If you, or someone you know, have information that could help the police with the investigation, please contact officers at the Roads Policing Unit via their LiveChat service, or by calling 101, quoting reference B027422.
