Lovelace to return from Rangers injury in January, confirms McCallum

Zak Lovelace could return from his Rangers injury blow in January, B team manager David McCallum has revealed.

The talented teenager was handed a first start for the first team under Steven Davis in the 3-0 win over St Mirren in October.

After an impressive start to the match, Lovelace had to be stretchered off injured with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.

Lovelace had been instrumental in the opener in Paisley as Ryan Strain handled a fierce cross leading to a penalty and red card for the St Mirren defender.

The former Millwall talent, 17, hasn't featured since the setback but could make his comeback in the New Year according to McCallum.

Asked for fitness updates on Lovelace and Jack Harkness, McCallum explained: "Zak Lovelace and Jack Harkness are out due to injury and it will look like they will hopefully return around January time but we work closely with them to get them back.

After the injury worry, Lovelace had commented on social media:  "Happy to get my first start for Rangers and to be involved in the first goal.

"Unfortunate to pick up an injury but I shall be back soon."

Commenting after Lovelace's first start, then interim manager Davis said: "Firstly, I thought he was really lively, bringing that energy, power and pace that we know he's got.

"He brought that to the game and was causing them problems, so I'm disappointed for him.

"It's a bit of a double-edged sword for him today in terms of getting his full debut and then that happening.

"He says he's feeling a little bit better after the game but until he's assessed we'll not really know the damage."
