'It's happening!' - Manchester United fans react to cryptic Qatari takeover tweet

Manchester United fans have reacted positively to a cryptic tweet from a Qatari journalist as the Emir of Qatar continues to be linked with a bid for the club.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, was expected to make a bid of more than £4bn for United by Friday’s deadline. It is thought that those leading the purchase for the country's ruler value the club at no more than £4.5billion.

The Raine Group is the financial adviser to the Glazers, with the Reds' current owners having set an asking price of £6bn. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has confirmed his company, INEOS, is also interested in buying United.

On Thursday, the chief editor of the Doha Arabic, Majed Al Khelaifi, tweeted an image of the United badge, alongside the caption: "Man United is Qatari"

Another journalist - @Qatari - commented on the post, writing: "After the intransigence of Liverpool’s owners and their refusal to give a percentage exceeding 49% (a controlling percentage in which decision-making takes place), the compass changed completely for Manchester United, very simple steps to announce the acquisition of United.

"Very simple steps remain to announce the acquisition of United by Qatari investors."

United supporters were quick to react to Al Khelaifi's tweet, and while there was some opposition to the report, several fans expressed their excitement at the post...
