Love Island viewers react to 'bombshell' ex-League of Ireland footballer Scott van der Sluis' entrance and age

Love Island viewers were shocked to learn the age of the League of Ireland star who entered the Mallorca villa.

Welshman Scott van der Sluis previously played in goal for Dublin's Shelbourne FC before he was released to join the Love Island villa for season 10 as a "bombshell".

Scott, whose youth career included Manchester United, Liverpool and Swansea, went on a date with islander Jess after she won a football challenge earlier in the programme on Thursday.

Jess, who has been in the show since the beginning of the season, was shocked to learn that Scott was only 22-years-old, the same age as herself.

After the 6'1" keeper revealed who he played for, she admitted: "I've never heard of that team."

Scott has also previously dated season eight Love Islander Paige Thorne, with the relationship lasting several months, according to the Sun.

One viewer reacted to this revelation saying "how is everyone connected wth" while another said: "@LoveIsland stop putting people in there who are connected to past islanders."

Another commenter remarked upon the former League of Ireland footballer: "Jess and Scott look good together. I hope he likes her and doesn't go for the predictable choice like Molly or Leah."

Speaking earlier, Shelbourne manager and Ireland legend Damien Duff jokingly said: "I was shocked and saddened that Scott chose a villa in Mallorca full of beautiful single women over myself, the staff and the players.

He added: "All jokes aside, I thank Scott for his services to Shelbourne FC and we all wish him the very best for the future, whatever that holds."
