Love Island viewers were sent into fits of rage on Tuesday night after hearing bombshell Sammy Root reveal the girl he is coupled up with wasn't initially his type but that he was hers. He said of partner Jess Harding that he had to "work to try something new and explore [her]".
It came after things got rather heated between the pair on ITV2 after Sammy found out that Jess was interested in getting to know Mitch Taylor on a more romantic level following Monday night's Situationship challenge. This sparked Sammy to fume which caused some controversy amongst the girls in the villa and viewers alike as the previous few days saw the 22-year-old explaining he was open to getting to know the villa's latest addition Leah Taylor.
Following a debrief on the events that occurred during the challenge Sammy was seen talking in the villa's diary room and said: "Without sounding quite bad I was Jess' type. She wasn't mine. I'm the one that worked hard to try something new and explore Jess. Now she's trying to play games. Nah!"

This confession came to a head later in the night when Sammy and Jess went for a chat. But instead of burying the hatchet and coming to a resolution things came to a head and the pair got more irate as they refused to listen and "respect" each other, causing Sammy to walk away from the conversation.
Viewers quickly rushed to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the project manager from Kent and his behaviour in the villa. User @Muhavukazi wrote: "Oh Sammy shut up. After ‘I am Jess’ type but she’s not mine’ she deffo should have dumped him #LoveIsland". Tweeter @itslolalistens posted: "I need the producers to show Jess where Sammy said Jess wasn’t his type and was trying #LoveIsland."
A third, @ethparkerr, added: "sammy saying jess isn’t even his type but still wanting to work things out with her? get him OUT #LoveIsland," as well as @Xhakaed who penned: "Sammy. You can’t say you care about someone and then every time you disagree you throw it out there that you were kind enough to go for them even though they weren’t your type. It’s just nasty. #LoveIsland."
Shortly after this, viewers saw Maya Jama make her return to the villa to set the couples a challenge of deciding who the two least compatible pairs were. Later in the show it revealed that Jess and Sammy were voted for by their fellow Islanders alongside Mitch and Leah. Once the results came in, Maya dropped another bomb - all four were now single and would not be able to couple up with each other at the next re-coupling.
However, not all was lost for the foursome as the 28-year-old presenter revealed they weren't the only singletons in the villa. Introducing two new bombshells, Maya explained that Mal Nicol and "heartbreaker" Montel McKenzie were "waiting to date you at the front of the villa".
Love Island airs on ITV2 at 9pm on weekdays.
