Love Island viewers were left less than impressed after a series of technical issues interrupted the Winter series premiere.
The winter edition of the hit ITV reality show is back in South Africa for the first time in three years after Scots star Paige Turley took home the prize alongside beau Finley Tapp. Returning to Cape Town with brand new host Maya Jama, ten singletons have entered the villa in the hopes of finding love.
The confirmed stars include Olivia Hawkins, Shaq Muhammad, Tanyel Revan, Will Young, Anna-May Robey, Ron Hall, Lana Jenkins, Kai Fagan, Haris Namani, Tanya Manhenga - and the first bombshell Tom Clare, who was voted in by the general public.
As viewers sat down on Monday night to watch the dating show, many were left unimpressed as the show continued to glitch and crash throughout. Fans fumed over a technical hitch which made the picture disappear for a brief moment before it returned.
It happened as science and PE teacher Kai introduced himself to the viewers at home. One wrote: "WTF HAPPENED TO THE SCREEN #loveisland," as a second added: "OMG DID ITV2 JUST DIE #LoveIsland."
In his pre-show interview, Kai said he was excited to find The One - and he's ready to find a connection. "When you first meet someone you never normally get to spend that much time with them, so when you’re genuinely looking for a connection, the Villa is the perfect place to do it," he shared, "I’m pretty lighthearted, I love a laugh."
However, this wasn't the only technical difficulty the broadcaster experienced as the show crashed again as the contestants were chatting later in the show. Fans took to Twitter to vent their frustrations. One said: "Rah @itv wtf is this about #LoveIsland."
"Wtf is this connection #LoveIsland," moaned another viewer. A third agreed: "ITV..WE ARE TIRED OOO GET THE GLITCHING SORTED #LoveIsland"
"so its not just my stream thats glitching? i thought MTN were playing games yet again #LoveIsland," ranted another.
By the end of the episode, the first five Love Island couples were: Lana and Ron, Tanya and Shaq, Tanyel and Kai, Anna-May and Haris, and, Olivia and Will. However, as host Maya returned to the villa she was the bearer of bad news for the boys as bombshell Tom had 24 hours to get to know the girls and pick someone to couple up with - leaving one of the lads single.
Love Island returns tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
