Margot Robbie may have been the star attraction at the London Barbie movie premiere, but she was more excited about getting to rub shoulders with some of the former Love Island cast.
The Oscar-nominated actress, 33, is a self-confessed superfan of the hit ITV2 dating show and even threw a Love Island-themed party for her 31st birthday back in 2021.
Last summer, the Australian native said she was backing Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti, who are no longer together, to win the summer series.
“Love Island reminds me of living in London, watching it with my girlfriends when everybody was home from work,” she said at the time.
It was like all her Christmases had come at once when she realised that Culculoglu, Sanclimenti and other former islanders including Liberty Poole and Danica Taylor had turned out for the star-studded event.
Robbie looked in her element as she posed for selfies with each one individually and was clearly fangirling as she shared a moment with Culculoglu on the pink carpet.
Speaking to BBC Newsbeat after the Barbie premiere, Culculoglu said how she had “really, really, really” hoped that she would get to meet Robbie.
“I know there was a TikTok that went viral on about how she really really liked me from Love Island, and how she was basically saying I came across as a boss babe.
“And at the time when I came out the villa, I was shocked that she actually said my name.
“So when Margot saw me, I was the biggest fan for her and she acted like she was a fan for me which I was even more overwhelmed with.”
Culculoglu was further blown away when Robbie told her: “I can’t believe I’m meeting you.”
Poole and Taylor, who appeared on Love Island in 2021 and 2022 respectively, also said they were “starstruck” when meeting Robbie.
“I was like ‘as if Margot Robbie knows my name, this is crazy’,” Poole recalled.
Adding: “She was just so humble and down to earth.”
Reflecting on her own experience, Taylor also said she was shocked that Robbie knew who she was.
“I was like ‘Margot can I just get a real quick picture’. And she was like ‘oh my gosh, of course I absolutely love you’,” she said. “Which is crazy that that even came out of her mouth.
“With Margot being Barbie, the star, I feel like it was only right to have a couple of Love Island cast there.”
The highly anticpated Barbie movie based on the iconic Mattel doll hits UK cinemas nationwide from July 21.
