Former Love Island and Dancing On Ice contestant Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu says that some of her family members have been "sleeping outside" following the Turkey-Syria earthquake. The reality TV star who is of Turkish decent says that she has donated cash to the relief effort and wants to go over and volunteer.
Ekin-Su, 28, is working with the British Red Cross in a bid to drive donations to help those most in need. Speaking to Sky News on Tuesday night she said: "It's honestly so heartbreaking because it's my heritage, I'm Turkish so I've got so many friends and family out there.
"I have members of my family who have experienced the shake. They've been outside, they've been sleeping outside. It's scary because it is people who are close to me," she added.
During an interview with presenter Mark Austin, she also revealed that she used to live on the edge when in Turkey because of the unknown.
More than 7,300 people are thought to have been killed in the quake which hit on Monday. Earlier the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it was sending firefighters over to help with the relief effort in both countries.
Three British nationals have also been confirmed missing following the natural disaster. Foreign Secretary James Cleverly made a statement in the Commons confirming the trio are missing and a further 35 are affected. He did not specify whether or not they were in Turkey or Syria.
Ekin-Su, who used to live and work in Turkey as an actress, rose to fame after winning Love Island 2022 alongside boyfriend Davide Sanclimenti.
