Michael Owen has hit back at a sickening comment made by a football coach on Twitter about his daughter Gemma who is currently appearing on Love Island. He shut down the vile tweet while his 19-year-old daughter continues to star in the hit ITV show.
The former England star previously admitted he didn't want to see Gemma kissing on the show but this prompted a crude response from Glasgow City FC under-18 academy coach Paul Proud. The coach tweeted: "Can’t wait to see her getting smashed", Birmingham Live reports.
But ex-Liverpool star Michael, who also played for Manchester United, Stoke City, and Newcastle United, as well as Real Madrid, hit back on Twitter saying: "What a fine example to set from a man in your responsible position." Fans followed suit in criticising the coach, with one writing: "Nice comment from a fella who works with youths."

Proud has since revealed to The Scottish Sun that he no longer works at the club. He said he had "removed" himself from the club despite the post being made "in jest" and "taken out of context".
On Saturday, Michael shed light on his stance on Gemma taking part in the show. He said: "No father wants to see physical contact, do they? I certainly don’t. If there is physical contact I think I’ll be throwing something at the screen. I don’t want to see kissing. Do not make me see kissing."
During the recoupling ceremony on Friday night, 23-year-old fishmonger Luca Bish, who had been coupled up with Paige, picked dressage-rider Gemma, 19, after confessing his true feelings the previous night. Love Island returns tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and also on the ITV Hub on-demand platform and catch-up service.
