Love Island's Tasha Ghouri's heartbreaking teen years as she battled no confidence

Tasha Ghouri’s doting dad has leaped to the defence of the Love Islander, hitting back at claims she isn’t being “real” on the show.

Tarek Ghouri defended his daughter after she shed tears of fury following the boys’ “rude” reaction to a dramatic recoupling on Friday.

Tasha had enjoyed a flirty date with posh new arrival Charlie Radnedge in the hot tub the previous day. But the well-spoken hunk decided to couple up with Ekin-Su Cülcüloglu.

That left Tasha coupled with Andrew La Page, prompting the rest of the lads to doubt Tasha’s authenticity.

Dami claimed she was “contradicting” her feelings for Andrew, and “isn’t being real”.

Tasha hit back: “Look at everyone shaking their heads, it’s so rude.”

Company director Tarek, 56, said the boys had got his daughter all wrong.

He said: “Tasha is a very genuine, natural, compassionate person and I’ve seen many examples of when she’s been there to support other contestants. Generally, it’s great to see her enjoying the villa and making new friendships – that makes me smile.”

Tasha, 23, a dancer and model, was diagnosed as deaf at birth and wears a cochlear implant.

Opening up about the moment the family were told she was deaf, Tarek revealed: “It was a difficult time and something that we had to come to terms with. Once we’d accepted that and had a plan, we got on with the plan – learn sign language and get her all the help and technology she needed.”

Tasha grew up “a happy child” in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, and Tarek says: “She had a great support around her from school. She was as she is now - caring, compassionate and a bit of a ring leader.”

But he adds: “She lacked a little bit of confidence when she hit her teens... ‘I’m different and I’ve got a hearing problem and I’ve got this thing on my ear.’ Boys start to come along and maybe she doubted whether she was attractive enough. But then she blossomed.”
