Love Island's older generation spinoff sparks casting concerns

Ulrika Jonsson shared her concerns regarding ITV's casting process for its Love Island spinoff, The Romance Retreat.

ITV announced the hunt for "vibrant parents" was on after they officially confirmed their plans for a reality dating series following the older generation last week. The show is expected to bounce off Love Island's overall set-up but shed its influencer themes in favour of a stripped-back, real feeling.

Though very little is known about the show as of yet, it has already sparked fierce interest from celebrities dying to take the reins as presenter. Ulrika Jonsson is just one star throwing her hat into the ring but not before sharing concerns over the application process.

The show's advertisement online describes it as the "only dating show where all the parents have been nominated by their grown-up children" which sparked concern from the star. Discussing the requirements on Good Morning Britain, she told the panel she wasn't a fan of the idea because she couldn't trust her children to make the right decision.

GMB regular Susanna Reid said: "It is single parents. Do you think your children should have a say in who you go out with?" Ulrika said: "Categorically no, absolutely not.

"I think, in my case, my children would choose someone boring. I think they would choose someone calm and predictable. I think the thing is just because you're over 50 it doesn't mean you've given up on life and don't want new adventures. I have a greater zest for life now than I probably did in my 20s and 30s.

Davina McCall made a desperate bid last week to hop on board as the show's presenter but Carol Vorderman is another name rumoured to be of interest to ITV. Ulrika stated the pair were solid choices and that she doesn't believe the role should go to someone who is married as it somewhat defeats the point of the show.

She added: "If you're hosting that programme you should have a wealth of experience in modern-day dating. Yes, being single should be a prerequisite."
