Love Island's new bombshell is returning Islander Adam Collard and fans are outraged

Love Island's new bombshell is returning contestant Adam Collard in shocking twist.

Adam, 26, shot to fame on the fourth series of the popular ITV2 show and will return as a bombshell in tonight's episode. The star has already confirmed he is prepared to ruffle some feathers, but viewers aren't happy after his controversial stint on the show in 2018.

During his time on the series, he paired up with Kendall Knight, Rosie Williams, then Zara McDermott, before his head was turned in Casa Amor and he dumped Zara for Darylle Sargeant. His behaviour on the programme led Women’s Aid, a domestic abuse charity, to issue a warning about spotting signs of abuse.

In a statement released at the time, chief executive of Women’s Aid Katie Ghose said that his behaviour towards ex Rosie Williams exhibited signs of “gaslighting and emotional abuse”, and called on viewers to make a stand against domestic abuse.

“On the latest series of Love Island, there are clear warning signs in Adam’s behaviour,” Ghose said. “In a relationship, a partner questioning your memory of events, trivialising your thoughts or feelings, and turning things around to blame you can be part of a pattern of gaslighting and emotional abuse.

Love Island aired an explosive twist at the end of Sunday's episode as it was revealed that 2018 contestant Adam Collard is returning to the ITV2 show (ITV)

“Last night, Rosie called out Adam’s unacceptable behaviour on the show. We ask viewers to join her in recognising unhealthy behaviour in relationships and speaking out against all forms of domestic abuse – emotional as well as physical. It is only when we make a stand together against abuse in relationships that we will see attitudes change and an end to domestic abuse.”

Teasing his return, Adam said: "I'm going to ruffle a few feathers when I go in," but viewers aren't happy about this shocking twist. The former Islander garnered backlash from viewers who are already considered about the contestants mental health after an explosive stint in Casa Amor.

One penned: "I never want to see the Love Island bosses/producers pretend to care about mental health again. Not after bringing Adam back, the guy that was so bad Women’s Aid had to write a statement on him," Another wrote: "adam collard is a fucking menace i can’t believe he’s back"

A third tweeted: "Adam fucking collard. Pioneer of gaslighting and heartbreak." Another angry viewer said: "In all seriousness love island are morally fucked. Womens aid had to intervene last time Adam was on the show, both him and the production apologised… so they bring him back? Ratings not mental health"

A fifth penned: "ADAM F****** COLLARD. His resume speaks for itself, every week a new girl, every single one convinced they were the exception, every single week the audience believing he fully fell in love. He is THE menace" Another said: "GET ADAM F****** COLLARD OUT OF THE VILLA NOW WHO EVEN ASKED FOR THIS"

Someone else said: "The poor women in that villa are gonna need therapists now they’re bringing back ADAM f***** COLLARD" Another fan said: "So you’re telling me love island saw that the boys were acting like demons and they decided to send in Adam f***** collard the demon king from his season???"

Love Island airs every night on ITV at 9pm.
