Love Island's Liam has a famous Welsh rugby dad

Gemma Owen, the daughter of former England striker Michael Owen, might have grabbed the headlines as a Love Island contestant with a famous sporting father, but she's not the only one. Liam Llewellyn, who briefly coupled up with Gemma this week, is none other than the son of former Wales scrum-half David Llewellyn.

David, better known as Dai, played his club rugby for Ebbw Vale, Newport and Neath and was part of the Wales squad for the 1999 World Cup where he scored a try against Japan.

Since retiring in 2003, the former scrum-half has turned to a career as a personal trainer and sports therapist. You can read more about the life and times of the 51-year-old here.

Son Liam took after his dad by moving into the fitness profession as a personal trainer. At 22, he is one of the youngest in this year's Love Island villa, with the new series having kicked off on Monday.

Talking about his decision to enter the villa, he said: "I think 22 is a really nice age to meet someone, you’ve got your years ahead of you so you have time to experience stuff and grow together."

He continued: "I think Love Island is a great opportunity to meet someone, you’re in with a load of different types, so you can get to grips with what you really like about people."

Since Liam's involvement in Love Island, dad Dai has said on Instagram: "My boy . So proud of you son .. love you . Go nail it".
