Love Island's Laura Whitmore and Maya Jama spotted 'ignoring' each other at BRITs

Love Island ’s Laura Whitmore and Maya Jama were seemingly spotted ‘ignoring’ each other at the BRITs in an awkward moment, it has been reported.

The former presenter of the ITV dating series, Laura, 37, and the series’ new presenter Maya, 28, were placed at the same table at the Brit Awards 2023 last night.

Sources have claimed to MailOnline that the fellow Love Islander hosts ‘didn’t speak to each other once’ during the duration of the annual music ceremony.

However, following the reports, both Maya and Laura took to their respective Instagram pages to shut down rumours of a feud and set the record straight.

Pictures and videos from the night do appear to show Laura and Maya stood next to each other beside the ITV table without interacting, but it is possible that the pair were simply preoccupied by speaking with others.

A source told the publication: “Maya and Laura were sat on the ITV table together but didn't speak to each other once during the whole ceremony.

“At one point they were stood with their backs to each other.

“Maya was happily speaking to Laura's husband Iain Stirling but didn't chat to Laura once. There is definitely some tension between them.”

Posting on her Instagram Stories on Sunday, Laura shared a screenshot of the report and suggested she and Maya were just "talking to other people at our table" at the time the snaps were taken.

"We had a great night @mayajama," Laura added when hitting back at rumours of a feud.

Maya shared her predecessor's post to her own page and added: "Silly silly silly. I think very highly of @thewhitmore and think she's an angel."

Laura replied: "Back at ya lovely."

The moment comes as former BBC Radio 1 presenter Maya took over hosting responsibilities from the Irish presenter after hosting the dating show for two years.

Taking to Instagram back in August when she announced she would be stepping down from the role, Laura spoke of elements she found 'difficult' after a turbulent time on the dating show.

Laura had taken the reigns back in January 2020, when original host - the late Caroline Flack - stepped aside as she awaited court proceedings after being accused of assaulting her former partner.

In the years since, Laura has married partner Iain Stirling, Love Island's resident voiceover, and welcomed her first baby.

It has since surfaced that Maya has already had 50% more airtime on the series than Love Island’s previous host Laura Whitmore.

Within four days of the current winter series, Maya has had an impressive 19 minutes and 55 seconds on-screen, in comparison to former host Laura, who was only featured for 13 minutes and 26 seconds by the same episode.
