Love Island’s Jess Harding and Molly Marsh had viewers in hysterics after they confessed they didn’t know what the word “territorial” meant.
During Thursday’s episode of the ITV2 dating show, the girls were talking to bombshell Whitney Adebayo, as they interrogated her about who had caught her eye after she entered the Spanish villa on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old entrepreneur from London told the girls she was hesitant to get involved with some of the boys as she didn’t want to step on any toes.
“The girls are territorial,” Whitney said, prompting Jess to ask: “What does that mean, I'm not good with big words.”
“Oh my gosh, they're like, you know Ella, she's very territorial over Tyrique and you don't really want to get in that. It's long,” Whitney explained, but that did little to help poor Jess, who still didn’t understand what the word meant.
“It is long but you're here for yourself and if you feel you have a connection with Tyrique, you need to explore that,” the 22-year-old beauty clinic owner replied.
Fans were in hysterics over the cringeworthy exchange, with one comparing Molly and Jess to season four contestant Hayley Hughes, who famously didn’t know what Brexit was, or if Liverpool was a country.
“Molly and Jess not knowing what territorial means gives the same energy as Hayley thinking Essex was a continent,” they tweeted.
“Sorry but how is territorial a big word?'” another added.
While one viewer suggested Jess may have been pretending she didn’t know what territorial meant, as the blonde beauty is bilingual.
“So Jess don’t know what territorial means but knows can speak basic Spanish? Interesting,” they wrote, while another agreed: “How can Jessica not know what territorial means but she’s here doing bilingual LOL.”
“I know I have an unhealthy obsession with Love Island but today might have been an awakening... These people didn't know what "territorial" meant…” another joked.
One viewer poked fun at Whitney’s terrible explanation of the word, and commented: “Jess said she didn't understand what 'territorial' means and wanted Whitney to explain it. Whitney basically replies by saying that territorial means territorial lol. I'm sure that helped Jess a lot.”
