Love Island's Iain Stirling 'confirms' final date and extended episode before ITV announcement

Iain Stirling has given away when the Love Island final is, after fans claimed to have worked out the date.

It's now been close to seven weeks since the latest series of the ITV2 dating show kicked off and, while before it had even started there was speculation that bosses had toyed with the idea of extending the new run to 10 weeks, presenter Laura Whitmore appeared to rule this ou t in a preview advert.

Speaking in the teaser, Laura said: "This summer love is ours; every romance, every bromance, every recoupling round the firepit. For eight weeks we're going to own love and it all kicks off tomorrow in a brand new villa."

And now, nearly two months later, it's Laura's other half, Love Island narrator who appears to have confirmed when this year's final will be, before ITV have had the change to make an official announcement, In a voice over that played out over scenes at the start of Thursday's episode.

Scottish comic Iain was discussing the arrival of the four new bombshells into the villa, when he remarked that they were "chasing a lobe that will last until the sun implodes," before adding "or failing that, a week on Monday at 10.30pm."

His comments rubber stamped viewer theories that the Love Island final will be on Monday, August 1, while also giving away the fact that, in keeping with previous years, it will be an extended 90 minute episode.

Iain's comments on the final, came after other half Laura was defended by ITV over accusations from viewers that she 'sl*t shamed' contestant Ekin-Su, which sparked Ofcom complaints.

In response to the posts made about Laura, in a statement to Metro, a spokesperson said: "Laura is the presenter of the show, and part of that role is to pose questions to the panel and discuss events in the villa.

"‘We do not condone trolling against either our host or our Islanders and any subsequent elevation of these comments."
