Love Island's Gemma Owen reaches Instagram milestone but odds of winning drift

Gemma Owen has reached one million followers on Instagram but, while her social media following has soared, her odds of winning Love Island have fallen away.

When the line-up for the new series was announced in May, it was Michael Owen's daughter who caused the biggest stir, particularly when viewers clicked who her dad is. After receiving a lukewarm response from Love Island fans during her first few days in the villa, with some branding her 'cold and entitled,' public opinion quickly shifted in her favour, thanks to the mature way Gemma has coped with life on the show, coming across much wiser than her 19 years.

However, while Gemma has plenty of support, with her Instagram following proving that, viewers aren't quite so enamoured with her other half, Luca Bish. Gemma and Luca were early frontrunners for the Love Island crown in the eyes of the bookies, but after he left viewers seriously unimpressed with his behaviour during the Movie Night episodes, they are now just third favourites to triumph in next week's final.

Gemma and Luca did little to win any critics over with their 'bitter' reaction to Davide and Ekin-Su becoming 'exclusive' and it's their rivals who continue to gain momentum as favourites to win.

Betfair have Davide and Ekin-Su at odds of 1/4 to win, with much newer couple Adam and Paige now in second, although some way behind on 11/2. Gemma and Luca are now 9/1.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “It comes as little surprise to see social media’s favourite couple, Davide and Ekin-Su, the strong odds-on favourites at 1/4 to win Love Island with the final less than a week away. Adam and Paige are 11/2 to win the £50,000 prize, with Luca and Gemma 9/1 to go all the way, while Andrew and Tasha are 10/1.”
