Love Island's Gemma Owen isn't only villa resident with a famous dad

They are a few days into the new series of Love Island and Gemma Owen has still not told her fellow islanders that she is the daughter of footballer Michael Owen. But it seems that she is not the only contestant hiding the fact they have a famous dad.

Gemma, 19, caused a stir after swapping Liam Llewellyn for 27-year-old Davide Sanclimenti just 24 hours into the competition. Davide had arrived on the ITV show after all the pairs had 'coupled up' and had to choose which girl he'd like to couple up with.

As a result of choosing Gemma, Liam was left vulnerable to being dumped from the villa. Gemma and Davide headed for their first date on Wednesday night's episode (June 8) and the teen had still not revealed her famous family at that point, MEN reports.

Her dad, who used to play up front for Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Stoke City, Real Madrid and England, was not keen to comment on his daughters choice to enter the villa while appearing on Channel 4 as a pundit for England's game against Germany in the UEFA Nations League. Michael joked he had left the country to escape it after talk turned to the dating show.

But it seems that Liam Llewellyn, who had originally coupled up with Gemma, also has a famous father. David Llewellyn is a former Wales international rugby union player who played his club rugby for Ebbw Vale, Newport and Neath.

David, a scrum-half, was also part of the Wales squad for the 1999 World Cup, playing against Japan during the tournament hosted by Wales. He went onto win four caps for the national team and scored one try.

The former rugby player now works as a personal trainer in Cardiff. He has recently been training boxing rising star Joe Cordina who was crowned the IBF super featherweight champion just a few days ago.

And he's also had something to say about Liam being ditched by Gemma - despite it not being her choice. Asked what he’d say to Gemma's dad Michael, he told Heart South Wales' Woody and Jagger show: "He’s a footballer, I’m a rugby player, I hope he doesn’t fall over when I shake his hand."
