Love Island's Gemma opens up about ‘love hate’ relationship with dad Michael Owen

Love Island star Gemma Owen opened up about her footballer dad Michael Owen for the first time on the ITV2 dating show as she chatted with Ronan Keating’s son Jack.

The 19-year-old reality star only recently acknowledged her famous family on air during the ITV2 show as she said she went to nursery with David and Victoria Beckham’s kids.

As Jack started questioning the starlet on her famous parents and asking her how well they get on, Gemma confessed that she and her dad have a "love hate relationship".

Gemma said to Jack: "So your dad was in Boyzone?", prompting Jack to explain that his dad is currently on tour and he gushed about being a child of a star.

He said: "It's great as you probably know, I've got to do lots of fun things, meet interesting people, I'm blessed you know. Are you close with your mum and dad?"

Gemma added: "Yeah I'm super close to my dad as well. It's like a love/hate relationship between me and my dad.

"Our personalities are so similar like we're either getting on like a house on fire or we're clashing."

Speaking in the Beach Hut, Gemma said she liked speaking about family with Jack as she recognised he was very family oriented too.

This comes as Love Island couples are being put to the test with the return of Casa Amor on Sunday evening.

Love Island has sent in twelve new Casa Amor girls and boys who are ready to cause havoc in the two villas over the next few days.

The villa's iconic flashing neon sign appeared at the end of Thursday night's episode, setting off the countdown until the main villa was split with loyalties set to be tested.

This year's second villa looks more luxurious than ever, with a secluded terrace for islanders to share secret chats and maybe a hidden kiss underneath the classic Casa Amor sign.

ITV bosses have massively shaken-up the format this year, sending the girls to Casa Amor instead of the boys at the end of Friday’s episode.

The girls in the main villa – Gemma Owen, Paige Thorne, Indiyah Polack, Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, Tasha Ghouri and Danica Taylor – were sent a text telling them to get ready to go out for cocktails, but were instead whisked away to the second villa, where they were greeted by a group of sexy new singletons.

The boys stayed in the main villa thinking the girls were having a night out, completely unaware of the Casa Amor bombshell coming their way.

This series has seen most of the girls in established romances including Tasha with Andrew Le Page, Gemma with Luca Bish, Indiyah with Dami Hope and Paige with Jacques O'Neill.

The last series where the girls left the main villa was in 2019, with Amber Gill, Molly-Mae Hague, and Maura Higgins on the show at the time.

Love Island airs every night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
