There was a rather awkward moment as Love Island launched on Monday night, when Ella Thomas claimed to recognise Tyrique Hyde, only for him to shut the conversation down.
Just months after Kai and Sanam won only the second ever Winter Love Island, the long running dating show was back in its usual home of Mallorca, in time for a new series. Having replaced Laura Whitmore as host at the end of last year, Maya Jama is back on hosting duties for the new run and she was right at the centre of the action as all of the new Islanders entered the luxury villa for the first time.
Once again, there was no 'coupling up' when either the boys or the girls got to do the picking, with the public doing the picking instead, as the contestants looked confused that they were all in the Love Island villa at the same time.

It was down to Maya to reveal the outcome of the viewer vote and, as she announced that Ella and Tyrique had been matched, Ella walked over to Tyrique and immediately told him they'd met 'not that long ago' in London. Seeming startled by her observation, Tyrique told her they'd 'talk later,' but when that moment came, he was still none the wiser, as she said his denial showed her 'how many girls that he meets.'
She added: "As soon as I saw you, I recognised you," as, starting to back down, he responded: "I do recognise you. You look mad different," before going into the Beach Hut and saying it was her new hair that threw him off.
