Love Island fans were rooting for Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu this summer as the couple navigated a rocky time in Mallorca to find their way back to each other. They might not have got off to the best starts - after Ekin Su was caught out for sneaking off to smooch newcomer Jay Younger on the balcony - but they managed to rebuild their relationship and went on to win the 2022 series of the ITV2 reality dating contest.
Italian businessman Davide, from Manchester, and Turkish actress Ekin-Su, from London, have shown that they are still going from strength to strength with a romantic moment posted on their shared Instagram page. Fans were sent into a frenzy and were left confused as they thought Davide had popped the question while presenting his lady with a ring in Rome.
As they enjoyed a evening on a picturesque rooftop setting, Ekin-Su was showered with gifts and Davide told fans something was "missing” from her finger. He was then seen seen pulling a £1,000 Cartier Love Ring from a box and placing it on her engagement finger.

But it was pointed out that the band was a promise ring, given as a sign of commitment. Houseofhandsomebedford said: "In Italy you do a promise ring." Leave_only_footprints_ asked: "Instead of engagement ring? Or before the Engagement ring?" And the_green_isled_momster replied: "Before. Its promising a future engagement."
Over on Twitter Ekin-Su prompted more excitement as she flashed her new ring with the words: "Over the moon." @dylanxlufcx gasped: "NO WAY HE PROPOSED."
@marijuanamingi asked: "WHAT DOES THIS MEAN." @ColinsCity wanted to know: "Omg you got engaged?" And @kkbutterfly27xx shouted: "UR GETTING MARRIED OMG?"
But Julie Robinson said: "A beautiful promise ring from a beautiful man." @thatgirlLimah commented: "For a moment there Ekin,for a moment." @sugaskcushi cheered: "YOU GUYS HAVE MADE IT SO FAR WOW HAPPY FOR YOU MANIFESTING MARRIAGE PROPOSAL NEXT." And @spenny_UK said: "Thank god some comments confirmed this is actually a promise ring *so much comment scrolling*"
In October Davide asked Ekin if she wanted to move in with him, presenting her with a tiramisu. The gesture was a nod to when Davide made her the homemade Italian dessert in the famous TV villa as a way of showing his commitment to her.
