Love Island's Antigoni is applying for Eurovision and says it would be an 'honour'

Love Island star Antigoni Buxton has revealed that she hopes to represent Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest next year - and has already submitted three songs for the competition.

The singer-songwriter, 26, has been busy releasing new music following her stint in the villa over the summer.

It has now been revealed that Antigoni - who has spoken about her Greek-Cypriot heritage - has put forward a proposal to represent Greece in Eurovision 2023.

She has shared that her submission to ERT - the public broadcaster in Greece organising the country's selection process - includes three songs.

She told Eurovision Fun : "I'm submitting the songs but one in particular is my favourite. It's an up-tempo powerful, fiery and romantic track with both Greek and English lyrics."

Antigoni - whose mother is presenter and restaurateur Tonia Buxton, 54 - said it combines modern production with traditional sounds, to create a unique style of music.

Antigoni said she would be honoured to represent Greece in the contest, which will be held in the UK next May.

"As the Eurovision is being held in the UK where I live, it would be an honour to be able to use my platform here to shine a light on the country I'm representing," she explained.

The deadline for submissions to represent Greece closed yesterday (October 9) and the chosen act will be announced at a later date by ERT.

There had recently been speculation that Antigoni - who promoted the article on Instagram alongside a heart emoji - may represent Cyprus at the contest next year.

It came after she visited PANIK Records last month. The record label is said to have worked with Cyprus' public broadcaster CyBC to select acts for the contest in the past.

Antigoni has released a number of songs as part of her music career in recent years, with her latest solo single - titled You Can Have Him - having debuted last month.

Eurovision will be held in Liverpool next year, with the UK hosting on behalf of this year's winning country Ukraine. The location was confirmed by the BBC just a few days ago.

The Mirror approached Antigoni's reps for comment.
