Love Island love triangle far from over with Paige and Jacques, warns psychologist

This year's Love Island love triangle is far from over, a celebrity psychologist has warned.

Paige Thorne is currently coupled up with Adam Collard - an original contestant from the 2018 ITV2 series - and despite only spending a week together, the pair have declared how they want to be exclusive.

Adam's arrival came at a rocky time for the Welsh paramedic and Jacques O'Neill - who was working to make it up to Paige following an explosive Casa Amor.

His shock exit from the villa saw the devastated couple in tears, with the rugby player saying he will be waiting for Paige on the outside.

While viewers may think the 24-year-old has long-forgotten Jacques, 23, amid her new recoupling, celebrity psychologist Dr Arthur Cassidy argues not all is lost between the pair.

Dr Arthur says that because Jacques and Paige have similar personality types, they will find it hard not to find their way back to one another.

Referencing the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator, he argues that the two share common traits, as reported by The Sun.

The personality test has four categories - introversion/extraversion, sensing/intuition, thinking/feeling, and judging/perceiving.

Each person is said to have one preferred quality from each category, producing 16 unique types.

Speaking for Buzz Bingo, Dr Cassidy said: “Jacques and Paige have much more in common socially and psychologically.

"Both are ‘Sensors’ - meaning that they are realistic about dates, seeing each other for who she and he really are.

"Add in the extra traits of being the ‘Feeling’ type, both show a combination of strong personality traits such as thinking and feeling - essential in playing out the dating game.”

A 'Feeler' is someone who acts out of emotion, whereas a 'Thinker' is someone who makes more logical decisions.

“Research shows that most men are ‘thinkers’ whilst most females are ‘feelers’ in personality terms," Dr Cassidy continued.

“Thinking types like Jacques want to understand intimacy, for them, it’s a state of being analysed, mastered and fine-tuned.

"Paige is the ‘Feeling’ type who wants to be in control of the situation to experience intimacy with Jacques."

However Dr Arthur suggested there may be stumbling blocks.

"Jacques has to work harder at working more constructively with Paige to clarify and understand each other's needs", he said.

“Jacques will often be distracted, always spontaneous, and wanting to explore other options and choices."

Meanwhile, the expert argues that Adam, 26, isn't a good match for Paige.

“His body language is very suspicious" (ITV)

Describing Adam as “dark and narcissistic”, he suggests he is still the 'bad boy' as he was known from series four and suggests he is playing a game.

Dr Cassidy warns Paige and viewers should be aware of his “choreographed flattery”.

“The most striking characteristic of Adam is his dominance, ultra supersonic confidence, and covert motives," Dr Cassidy added.

“He plays his cards close to his chest and will not reveal his motivational strategies to Paige.

“He wishes to convince her and the other girls that he is the ‘Mr Bad Guy Protector Of Women’ and especially of Paige.”

“His body language is very suspicious as he displays fake smiles and these synchronise with his shrewd calculating venturesome love tactics.”

Love Island returns to ITV2 on Sunday night at 9pm.
