Love Island host Maya Jama has revealed how an injury picked up on a previous job left her in a wheelchair.
The 28-year-old was in Cyprus to host a hip-hop beach party but suffered a fall the night before.
Maya spent two days receiving treatment in hospital and the rest of her time on the Mediterranean island in a wheelchair.
And 11 years later on she revealed that she still struggles to bend her toes properly as a result of the trip on a kerb.
Speaking to Pretty Little Thing's Behind Closed Doors podcast, Maya revealed how the incident had left part of her foot “hanging off”.
In quotes reported by The Sun, she said: “I went to Ayia Napa when I was 17 to host Charlie Sloth's show Fire In The Booth. But the day before the actual beach party thing we were supposed to be hosting, I ended up slipping on a bit of mashed-up kerb.
“The bottom of my foot was hanging off. I had to be in hospital for two days and ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of the time."
She describe how she ripped a nerve but couldn't feel it.
She added her toes still can't bend, with her big toe not being able to tuck. "I will never forget that trip," she said.
Earlier this week it was reported that Maya has quit one of her biggest presenting gigs.
Amid the new Love Island presenter wowing ITV2 viewers and making history with the popular reality TV show, Maya has reportedly stepped back from one of her old jobs with rival channel BBC Three.
The former Radio 1 DJ cemented her status as a Love Island legend over the weekend, just one week on from appearing on the show for the first time, as she broke a record while hosting Aftersun for the first time.
More viewers tuned in to Love Island's spin-off programme on Sunday night than the main show as admirers of the Bristol-born star were buzzed to see the new host present the live show for the very first time.
