Love Island final result sees Kai and Sanam win £50,000 prize after fans threaten to 'riot'

After two months of summer living in the winter sun, Love Island came to an end on Monday night, with bookies' and fan favourites Kai and Sanam crowned as winners in the final, as fans threatened to 'riot' if they didn't.

For only the second time in its eight year history, Love Island has taken up residence in South Africa for the second winter series. The first was won by Finn and Paige, back in the pre pandemic days of early 2020 and on Monday four couples aimed to follow in their footsteps.

The new series of Love Island may not have set the ratings alight, with viewing figures dropping below 800,000, but over the last eight weeks it’s still served up plenty of nightly drama, from early bombshell Zara causing a stir, to Carl Fogarty’s daughter going in, Will betraying Jessie during Casa Amor and Ron’s ‘game plan’ being exposed.

Bookies had Kai and Sanam, who came into the villa as part of the Casa Amor twist, as the red hot favourites to win, with viewers claiming they would “riot” if that wasn’t the final outcome.

A night on from Maya Jama 'ruining' the Love Island result, by revealing that Will and Jessie had been dumped before their elimination had even happened, the show's new presenter was at the helm as fans and contestants gathered at the villa to find out the results of the public vote.

Before the finalists could be crowned there was the job of finding out who finished in fourth and third and it was Shaq and Tanya who bowed out first in fourth. They were quickly followed out of the race by Tom and Samie, who were called in third place by Maya.

With just two couples left standing it was then down to Maya to announce the most important result of the night, that Kai and Sanam had won, minutes after he hinted that he'd soon be asking her to be his girlfriend.

Runners up Ron and Lana looked delighted for the new champions as pyrotechnics went off behind them and Maya offered them swift congratulations.
