Love Island fans have slammed Luca Bish on social media after they spotted his puzzled reaction to Ekin-Su and Davide winning the show.
The fishmonger and his partner Gemma Owen were runners up in series eight of the reality show, but seemed to expect to be crowned the overall winners. The 23-year-old looked confused when Laura Whitmore revealed that Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti, both 27, had scooped the £50k prize, while partner Gemma clapped the decision.
After spotting his reactions, fans took to Twitter to discuss it, with some joking he'd soon be asking for a recount. According to The Mirror, one user questioned: "WHY THE F**K HE PULLING THAT FACE DID HE ACC THINK HE WOULD WIN?"
Another penned: "'Here we go again, are you serious why can't Luca just be happy for Ekin and Davide for the rest of the show at least." And a third added: "Luca thinking he had the win in the pocket lmao."
A fourth said: "Luca was mad and confused his face says it all you f***ing having a laugh. Lad can’t believe he didn’t win." Luca and Gemma fell at the final hurdle on Monday's live show after seeing off couples Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope and Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page, who finished third and fourth respectively.
The couple have been together since the second week of the show, with the 19-year-old dressage rider originally being paired with Liam Llewellyn. She was then chosen by eventual winner Davide when he arrived as a bombshell but Luca later swooped in and coupled with her.
Luca's actions in the final few weeks of the show led to criticism from viewers and his family defending him. Most recently, fans of the show slammed the fishmonger for his "overreaction" after he discovered several of his fellow Islanders had voted for him to go in the public vote.
But his family were quick to comment, taking to the islander's Instagram Stories to show a comment from a fan supporting him. The comment said: "Can't believe how many people lack basic skills. Luca was not upset about the votes, he was upset that no one had voiced any concerns about him and Gemma's relationship before."
It continued to say how Luca "wears his heart on his sleeve" and isn't afraid to show his vulnerability.
Luca's family then commented: "Say it louder for the people at the back!!!! Our boy has been so open, loyal and honest with his emotions the entire way through this experience
"Like our mum said, we've wanted to tell him off a few times (think I might buy a cream pie to throw at him so that I have the opportunity), but he's been so true to himself and not been afraid to be emotional.
"Anything untoward was resolved. We're so proud, as are his friends. Our boy is coming home with his forever love. LOVE island 2022, complete."
