Love Island viewers were left "screaming at the TV" following the events of the latest episode. The episode on Sunday, July 17 showed the aftermath of the infamous 'Mad Movies' night, which saw the Islanders' Casa Amor antics exposed. Commenting on social media, viewers were particularly frustrated by the actions of Luca Bish, who has been partnered with Gemma Owen since the second week of the series. Several people accused him of being a "red flag".
The 23-year-old threatened to "explode" after watching Gemma, 19, 'flirt' with Billy Brown, in a film entitled 'Good Bill Hunting'. After watching the film, he said to Gemma: "You were entertaining it", to which she replied: "No, I wasn’t." Speaking to the other boys, Luca said: "I don’t even want to talk to her tonight. Made me look like an absolute f*****g w****r I ain’t going f*****g near that bird."
Luca then warned: "Bring a f*****g bird in now and watch me flirt. If she wants to play it down to me I will f*****g explode." A confused Gemma told the girls: "I don’t think any lines have been crossed." She then told Luca that he was "overreacting" and being "immature". The episode's conclusion prompted viewers to hit back on social media.
There were plenty of 'red flag' emojis on Twitter following the outburst, which many called "unjustified". Welsh West End star and fan of the show Sophie Evans, who recently got married, commented: "What is happpppppening? I just screamed at the TV. The boys winding each other up. Again Gemma (and Danica) speaking with so much sense."
Viewers shared Gemma's sense of confusion, with one person writing: "What exactly is Luca mad about?" Prior to 'Mad Movies', the couple's relationship appeared to be growing from strength to strength and in scenes that aired last week, Luca told Gemma that he "loved" her.
Elsewhere, Luca's actions were slammed with a number of people saying that the 19-year-old "needs to run" from him. A second person said: "I really hope Michael Owen is seeing how toxic and mean Luca is as a person, how much of an insensitive person he is. Luca is not somebody I'd want my child to date or to befriend. I think Gemma needs to run from this guy."
The way Luca acted was described as "manipulative", prompting some people to comment on his "unhealthy behaviour" in the relationship with Gemma. "I genuinely think Luca hates women. I want to know his background. Mummy issues? Bullied by girls in school? There’s got to be something to make him so unhealthy when it comes to women. Run, Gemma. Run," a viewer wrote on Twitter.
"Women have learned to play along with men’s advances in order to let them down gently coz otherwise it’s dangerous. Gemma didn’t encourage Billy but Luca’s reaction is misogynistic & controlling. The men this year are scary again," said another.
