Love Island fans have called out Jay Younger as he shared a frank conversation with Paige Thorne on Thursday night’s episode of the ITV2 dating show.
The investment analyst caused fireworks at the start of the episode after he told Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu he wanted to get to know Paige, who is coupled up with rugby player Jacques O’Neill.
But despite the explosive row, Jacques gave Jay his blessing to “crack on” with Paige, saying it would be the pair’s first “test”.
When Jay then asked Paige for a conversation the following day, he explained he had had his eye on her since his first day in the villa.
He said: “Obviously things were a bit mad last night, but I wanted to just get to know you.
“I don't know if you felt it, but I felt there was definitely something there. On my first day when I arrived, I felt like you were the first person I was quite drawn to.”
He added: “I remember you sat next to me at the firepit. You were on my left and I remember thinking, ‘Paige is really someone I would love to get to know’.”
Paige replied: “As soon as you came in, I thought I would love to get to know him. Then a week went by and you just weren't asked.”
But Love Island fans were left wondering whether Jay was being truthful as his comments seemed to echo what he said to Amber Beckford during their date.
Jay described feeling an instant connection with Amber after he caught her eyes first upon entering the villa, saying “I’ll never forget that”.
Taking to Twitter, several fans noticed the overlap, with one writing: “Jay is full of c***. He tells Paige she was the first girl he was interested in but is forgetting when he said he locked eyes with Amber when he first walked in. Weirdo.”
Another chimed: “So Jay said Paige caught his eye when he first came in, yet said the same about Amber and never picked Paige for one of his three dates.
“He’s playing a game, and Jacques does care about her. Jay is a snake, hope he goes soon.”
Another tweeted: “This guy has a script for EVERYTHING. Didn’t he say his first eye contact with Amber was his best memory???”
“Jay said Paige was the first person he was drawn to but he already used that line on amber?? this guy ffs,” another wrote as a fellow viewer echoed: “Jay is only doing this because he was in bottom three. I bet he didn’t see Amber in bottom 3 cos when he came in he almost went for Amber. Now it’s Paige.”
Another fan exclaimed: “ERMMM.. when Jay first walked into the villa didn’t he say he had eyes for Amber?? JAY YOU LIERRRR.”
