Love Island fans were left fuming last night as the hit ITV reality dating show returned to screens, but with a major element absent.
The show returned for another summer of flirtatious daybed chat, messy slow motion challenges and hopefully a dramatic Casa Amor stint to stir the pot.
But while past episodes of the show have relied on a preview of the upcoming episode to whet the audience’s appetite from show to show, Monday night’s premiere drama offered no teaser.
While the first episode was teased with explosive trailers of the Islanders learning of the show’s public vote coupling twist and the incoming bombshell of ‘Italian stallion’ Davide, there was no glimpse of the second night antics at the end of the premiere.
The lack of any preview left many Love Island fans wondering why the ITV staple had been dropped.
Taking to Twitter, one wrote: "They didn’t even give us a preview for tomorrow’s episode this season is so dry already."
A second said: "nahh how could they not give us a preview for tomorrow night."
A third posted: "where’s the preview for tomorrow???"
The first episode saw the girls - Paige, Indiyah, Tasha, Amber and Gemma - all make their grand entrance and begin exploring their new home for the long, hot summer ahead before host Laura Whitmore made a surprise appearance.
After chatting with the Love Island ladies about their turn-ons and turn-offs, the Irish presenter said: "Well girls, it’s time to couple up. There is something I haven’t told you yet - things are a little different this year."
The mum-of-one continued with the bombshell: "You thought you’d all be stepping forward for the boys you fancy the most. However, this is Love Island and you never know what to expect. For the first time ever, we asked the public to play cupid and pick the boy they thought you should couple up with."
The boys - Dami, Liam, Ikenna, Andrew and Luca - then made their entrance and met their potential partners for the very first time.
As the sun began to set on the first day in the Love Island villa, new boy Davide popped in and turned a few heads upon his arrival.
After a steamy game of dares, in which newcomer Davide shared a kiss with Michael Owen’s 19-year-old daughter Gemma, Davide received a text that looks certain to start the drama.
"Davide, in 24 hours you will couple up with a girl of your choice, leaving one boy single and vulnerable #italiansnack #ciaobella," he read out to the rest of the villa.
Love Island airs every night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
