The eagerly anticipated return of Love Island arrived tonight as a fresh batch of hot singletons arrived in the villa with the aim of finding love. However, ITV producers would not have anticipated the results of a vote of no confidence for the Prime Minister Boris Johnson to potentially draw viewers away.
The results were expected to be announced at 9pm on Monday 6 June, exactly the same time that the eighth series of Love Island kick-started. While this proved an easy decision for die-hard fans, many others found this tussle between two completely different forms of entertainment too difficult to decide.
On Twitter, Harry McCann commented “There are two types of people in this world, the ones watching the #NoConfidenceVote results on BBC News and the ones watching #LoveIsland.” Laura Vickers-Green said “As we switched from #NoConfidenceVote to #LoveIsland my mother in law said “Right, onto MORE IMPORTANT things”."

Danielle V added “Don't know what I’m looking forward to the most #LoveIsland or #NoConfidenceVote.” While Sophie had the perfect solution: “So I’m watching the #NoConfidenceVote and #LoveIsland at the same time. A girl is allowed to be interested in both.”
Jude had a similar system “I got Love Island on one screen and Sky News on the other like it’s the Round Of 16 in Champions League #LoveIsland #NoConfidenceVote.” Peter John asked: “Result of #NoConfidenceVote clashing with launch of #LoveIsland. Did they assume a different audience?”
Fortunately the result, which saw Johnson win the confidence vote by 211 to 148, was swiftly announced, allowing fans to make the quick transition to more lighter television.
