Love Island fans have called on triumphant Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu to replace Laura Whitmore as host after the tense 2022 final.
The ITV presenter helmed the dramatic finale of the hit dating show on Monday evening, which saw Ekin-Su and Davide Sanclimenti crowned Love Island 2022 winners.
Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su won Love Island 2022 after a spectacular series of villa drama and they jumped with joy when host Laura announced the result.
Ekin-Su, 27, broke down in tears as Laura finally entered the villa and revealed which couple had triumphed in the ITV2 dating show’s eight series, while Davide, also 27, gasped "I can't believe it".
But as the couples celebrated, many were left calling for the breakout star of the eighth series to host the show going forward.
Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “Ekin Su is getting Laura Whitemore’s job oh I see it. Of course she will be far more involved than Laura.”
A second posted: “Let’s be honest, Ekinsu IS love island. Now where and what do I need to sign for Ekin to replace Laura Whitmore?”
A fellow fan posted: “Yeah Laura you hug Ekin Su because you won’t be hugging her when she takes your job x.”
“Imagine Ekin and Davide taking Ian and Laura's place on Love Island his one liners would be hilarious,” one wistful fan wrote.
Another fan brought up Laura’s previous comments about Ekin-Su on Aftersun, writing: “Hope Ekin Su sees the clips of Laura slut-shaming her and goes for her job.”
The presenter was previously slammed by fans for making comments about Ekin-Su's antics with George in Casa Amor as she continued to question what happened, despite the Turkish actress denying any antics.
"Once again Ekin-Su swore that nothing happened with George and it seems Davide doesn’t believe her," she had said on Aftersun.
Show guest Tom Grennan added: "It deffo happened though, didn't it," with Laura turning to Sian Welby to continue the conversation on Ekin-Su.
Love Island viewers have taken to social media to call for Ekin-Su to become the new host of the ITV2 show at various points during the eighth series.
"EKIN-SU TO REPLACE LAURA WHITMORE NEXT SERIES," one user tweeted along with a snap of Ekin-Su dancing.
Another added: "Ekin-Su should take over as love island host. Sack Laura and give her the contract."
After Laura's comments about Ekin-Su aired on July 17, ITV came to the defence of the presenter.
Ofcom received 427 complaints on that episode of the spin-off relating to Laura's remark about the Turkish actress. The complaints were also about the treatment of Jacques O'Neill.
"Laura is the presenter of the show, and part of that role is to pose questions to the panel and discuss events in the villa," ITV said.
"‘We do not condone trolling against either our host or our Islanders and any subsequent elevation of these comments," they added to Metro.co.uk.
